Building Community Through Movement: The Inspiring Journey of a Run Club

Gemma and Chris

Meet Gemma and Chris: they started a community Run Club and didn’t expect the success it brought! They did this to prepare for Jordan’s Run the Runway, a 5K run, walk, pole, or roll on a REAL RUNWAY.

“This year we wanted to make our team about the people. We started a Run Club to get people moving and socializing. Every Sunday we were accountable and held others accountable. We had walkers turn into runners! We had people come to sit and enjoy the company. We had runners turn into consistent runners. People were coming up to me at work to say ‘I just ran on my break!’. What a cool feeling. This summer was humbling and I loved training with my family. Even my 8 year old daughter started to run!” Gemma

Gemma didn’t even know if she was going to be able to race until the day before because of an injury. She had a brace and modified her pace (until the end)! She placed 8th in her age group W35-39.

Chris still claims “he isn’t a runner”. He placed 7th in his age group M50-54! He was still able to laugh and have fun racing another participant to the finish line. Together, Gemma and Chris were able to encourage 14 people to sign up for their Centre Branch YMCA & Oxford Dodge team. The team raised $1792.64 to support YMCA Camp Queen Elizabeth and ensure all kids can go to camp!

This year, we kicked off the exciting Jordan’s Run the Runway Series with three events across Southwestern Ontario. The Chatham-Kent run took place on September 13 (raising almost $15,000), the London run on September 20, and there's still one last chance to join the fun! Don’t miss the Sarnia Run the Runway, happening on October 4 at the Chris Hadfield Airport runway. It’s not too late to be part of this unique experience—register below and take off with us!
